5 Ways to Bring the Design Principles of Luxury Fashion Brands into Your Home

What classifies a luxury designer brand as “luxury”?

In our opinion, it’s the exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail, coupled with high quality materials that stand the test of time. We can learn a lot from the principles and processes of luxury fashion brands and incorporate the same ideas and methods into interior design.

Below are 5 ways to bring the design principles of luxury fashion brands into your own home:

  1. Architectural Elements

A luxury fashion house will often obtain inspiration from architecture around the world. For example, The Vessel, located at Hudson Yards in New York City, has provided so many fashion designers and artists alike with inspiration for their own works of art. Additionally, some of the most appealing architectural creations, which are usually part of city skylines, are always tall with vertical lines to draw your eyes up, which has been incorporated into the fashion industry as a very classic design principal.

When it comes to our own homes or living spaces, we can incorporate these architectural elements in a smaller fashion (no pun intended) to provide drama, focal points and ultimately enhance the overall look and feel of the space.

To be honest, incorporating dramatic architectural elements usually requires some level of a renovation; however, it’s really helpful being able to start from scratch and build structural elements such as statement fireplaces or staircases that will create focal points and do all of the talking for you.

  2. Accent Features

If a renovation is not for you, the easiest way to still incorporate focal points and drama is by creating accent features throughout your home, such as accent walls or accent furniture.

You can create accent walls by simply using paint or by incorporating other materials such as stone, wood or fabrics (yes, wall fabric is a thing, and it looks amazing when done correctly). This is our favorite way to really enhance a space and give it a luxurious look and feel.

  3. Product and Material Selection

We cannot stress enough how important it is to be very mindful when purchasing products or materials for your home. If you are looking to create a design concept that is classic and timeless, it is worth spending the extra money on quality products and materials that will not only stand the test of time as trends come and go, but also hold their value and remain durable, especially if you have children or pets.

When it comes to luxury fashion, craftsmanship and material selection is everything. Products not only need to look luxurious, but they need to feel luxurious and that is accomplished by choosing materials the evoke a sense of royalty such as silks, velvets precious metals and stones.

When it comes to your own home, avoid purchasing synthetic fabrics such as polyester and rayon. Not only can they cause skin irritation, but over time they will look and feel cheap.

Instead, try to incorporate more natural materials such as leather, suede, wood and stone.

  4. Cohesive Color Palettes

When a designer creates a collection, one of the most important elements is cohesion, especially when it comes to the color palette. Sure, there are many designers out there who have a more eclectic style and love incorporating color, but at the end of the day, the most successful collections are those that are cohesive from start to finish and your your home should be the same.

There is nothing more anxiety provoking than walking into an environment where the color palette is anything but cohesive. If you are a lover of color, we suggest sticking to a neutral color palette for your base and adding in pops of color or patterns with the use of décor such as blankets and pillows or accents such as accent walls or accent furniture.

  5. Luxury Designer Statement Pieces

If you are a lover of luxury fashion designers like we are, you know that spotting that Louis Vuitton or Chanel logo in someone’s home always elevates the overall vibe and sparks a little excitement! When it comes to adding statement pieces with luxury logos, there are two categories, budget friendly and totally bougie.
